Vaginal Revitalization Q & A

Why should I get an annual physical exam?

When you have an annual exam, you’re taking charge of your health. It’s the best preventive measure you can take to maintain your well-being now and in the future. During the exam, your doctor is examining you from head to toe for any signs of disease or other possible health issues.

What can I expect during an annual exam?

Overall CheckUp

When you go to Golden Corner Family Practice for an annual exam, your physician conducts a complete physical, which includes examining blood pressure, weight, height, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, throat, thyroid, chest, abdomen, and rectum. A nurse takes blood samples to ensure normal kidney, liver, and other body functions. The staff maintains an onsite lab where technicians will analyze your blood samples.

Gynecological Exam

Your doctor performs a complete gynecological exam. You receive a pelvic examination during which your physician checks your uterus and ovaries; the doctor also conducts a Pap smear. If by chance your Pap smear shows some abnormalities, your doctor performs a colposcopy, another in-office test similar to a Pap smear. It takes a closer look at your cervix and the surrounding cells. Pap smears and colposcopies are life-saving tests because they detect precancerous cells and cervical cancer. Early detection saves lives.

Your doctor also conducts a comprehensive breast examination. Depending on your age, you should schedule a routine mammogram. Like Pap smears, mammograms help save lives because they offer detection of disease at an early stage.

Family Planning

There are numerous short-term, intermediate, and long-term birth control options on the market today. Your Golden Corner Family Practice physician can explain the options in each category and their effectiveness and can help you decide which method is right for you. You need to take birth control pills every single day to ensure their effectiveness, while IUDs are basically maintenance-free.

Two types of IUDs are available: copper and those with hormones. If you don’t like the idea of taking hormones, the copper IUD is an option. If you decide on contraception injections, you receive these every quarter. Condoms, the vaginal ring, or a contraceptive sponge are also available if you don’t want to take hormones.

Hormone medication/Hormone replacement therapy

Golden Corner Family Practice provides customized hormone medication if your hormone levels need adjustment. Our physicians also provide customized hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women who are suffering from menopausal symptoms. Symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, and night sweats can be severe and impede normal life function.
